SciTech II Vehicle Wins

Hydrography, Remote Science, and Related On-line Communications and Education Support: The Office of Ocean Exploration and Research (OER), located within NOAA’s Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, is responsible for coordinating interdisciplinary ocean exploration expeditions and projects to search, investigate, and document unknown and poorly known areas of the ocean in order to advance and disseminate knowledge of the ocean environment and its physical, chemical, biological, and historical resources. Under this contract, ERT will support the NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer research vessel in exploring unknown areas of the deep-ocean and reporting those findings to various audiences. Commissioned in 2008, the vessel is unique in that its on-board scientists and technicians work with shore-based exploration teams to use remotely operated vehicles and other sensors and systems to conduct preliminary investigations and mapping of the ocean floor to develop enough data to provide information to the scientific community and the general public, especially teachers and their students. The team, composed of scientists and technicians, distributes their findings in various types of formats and media outlets.

Project Management Services for AAAS Fellows: Under this contract, ERT provides oversight and coordination of the services provided by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) fellows in the fields of climate change, marine and ocean science, policy formulation and program development for the National Ocean Service (NOS) Office of Response and Restoration; the National Marine Fisheries Service’s (NMFS) Office of Science and Technology; and the Deputy Under Secretary’s Office for Administration (DUS). This bid was a recompete of our previous work with NOAA.

Support for the Data Services Team: ERT will provide scientific and technical support to the Data Services Branch (DSB) Data Services Team (DST). This team, located in the Satellite Products and Services Division (SPSD) of the NESDIS Office of Satellite Products and Operations (OSPO), is responsible for managing NOAA’s satellite direct readout services. Tasking under this contract will include supporting program management and customer services for the scientific community which uses data from the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Data Collection System (DCS), the Polar Data Collection System (Argos), the Direct Readout Program (DRO) and the Direct Broadcast Program.

Special Projects Division: The Special Projects Division (SP) is a division within NOAA’s National Ocean Service (NOS) Management and Budget Office (MBO) that provides scientific and technical support to the NOS Program Offices that contribute to the collaborative coastal and ocean stewardship mission of the NOS and its partners. The Division executes this role through three core capabilities: (1) Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Mapping and Advanced Data Visualization; (2) Data Analysis and Decision Support Tools; and (3) Planning, Facilitation, and Training. Activities under this contract will include conducting spatial data analysis and developing new and maintaining existing advanced web-based data visualization tools; supporting the translation of scientific data into content for both new and existing NOS science portals; and supporting scientific forums of coastal and marine partners and stakeholders.
